Name Change??

Okay...I'd love anyone's advice (only if you agree with me HA!  Although I really don't know what I think...sigh).  We've got quite the discussion going on over here about "changing" Karleigh's name.  I have always loved the name Caroline, and thought for years that if I were going to adopt, I would name her Caroline and call her Carlie.  My other two girls names are Katherine (Katie) and Alexandra (Lexie) and so Caroline (Carlie) would follow the "girl name rules" that I had planned.  Here comes the challenge for me.  For those that do not know, my husband's name is Karl.  That is Karl with a "K".  He is also a Jr. and so as a kid he was called "Karlie" (shhhhhhh!).  My problem is is that I like the name Caroline spelled with a "C"...but not Carlie.  Karoline with a "K" is growing on me...especially since it's a feminine form of "Karl".  But what about the spelling "Karleigh" that we have fallen in love with!?  Oh my....What a tangled web we've weaved!  I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts!!!

Well, since my daughter's name will be Caroline, I vote for that! But, I love the spelling Karoline as a tribute to her father. I think it is cool to have a differently spelled name. Ah, choices. :)

I like Karleigh just because of the "ei" matches the "ei" in Mei. I also like it because to me when I see Karlie I think of Dad's name and not a girls name.

Also, just to add, I like it with a "K" not a "C". I don't know if you knew this, but K's are the absolute best letter to start your name out with! ;0)

Just popped on your blog and saw the name game is starting again....

I love Karleigh Mei. I love Caroline. I do not love Karoline. It seems to be the trend to begin names that had traditionally started with a "C" with a "K" now. I definitely think I'm in the minority here, but I just thought I'd give my opinion! I think down the road Karoline with a "K" may look dated. Your other daughters have very lovely classic names. I think Caroline fits in with that. I think Karleigh Mei is nice since it has "Karl" in it, in honor of your husband. But I think Karoline is a stretch! JMO And you know what? If you end up naming her Karoline, I will love that for her, too!

Well, you'll know when you see her I think! And I too like the K spelling of Caroline. It has an asian influence I think. Also, I LOVE Caroline b/c one of my nieces is named Caroline. I would think people might misspell it, but people always misspell my name and it has never bothered me. And as for our little Susannah, I can't tell you how many variations her own DADDY and GRAMMY have used!!! LOL! I know she is going to have to spell her name for people all the time. Also, everyone wants to know what we will call her. At this point, it is Susannah but we like Susy if she ever wants to shorten it.

I think Karlie is adorable and I LOVE the fact that it is a variation of her Daddy's name. Love it! Hey, did you know that Karl and Charlie are the same name in different languages? Just an aside. OK, I am rambling. Thanks for your email and comment on my website. The sunshine and THE SONshine did me lots of good! Hope you have a wonderful weekend if I don't talk to you before.

O.K. so I love Karleigh Mei ... personally and well, since I have been praying for Karleigh Mei ... by name, then whose the Karleigh Mei I might be praying for? HAHA. Maybe someone is meant to begin the journey to "Karleigh Mei" if you bring home Carlie or Karlie or Karoline or Caroline ... who knows. What a web ... the best part is ... it's your web, your daughter and your decision! Whatever her name, we're gonna love her to pieces. Besides, we may just call her empress. HAHA
This coming from Maliah's Mom who regularly calls her "monkey", "ladybug" or whatever else suits her personality in that moment!

We went through this same kinda of thing. I wanted Matts name used for this child so instead of madilyn we use mattilyn (his name and his fathers middle name spelled like a girl)(still don't know about spelling maybe just one t like matilyn don't know yet) leeann (parts of kasey's middle and my middle name) then we will use part of her chinese name.We will call her Matti. She will be in highschool before she can spell it all. I like Karleigh Mei and Karoline Leigh Mei or a more Chinese way Karoline Lee Mei and call her Karlee but that might be too boyish here in America. Might look like Karl Lee. How about Carolyn Karleigh Mei your last names not that long you could probally get away with it unless your using part of her name. I don't know Jenn.. What a decision. Names are so important to these girls. Tonya

I am going to have to agree with Pam on this one. I don't love Caroline with a "K" it looks strange to me, and not that pretty. Caroline is such a beautiful, classic name. I love, love, love it! Caroline Mei is GORGEOUS!!! And then you could call her "Carlie." Of coure, it's your choice and I will love anything you pick. Such a tough decision!!!

I found your blog through my sister in law's and although you dont know me, I have a daughter named Karleigh (spelled that way) and so I am obviously partial to it! It is a very feminine way to spell the name and is beautiful!!

All the names you have chosen are beautiful and you can not go wrong with any of them!
