Please Pray Like Crazy!

I have a HUGE prayer request. Below is the video of a friend who is in partnership with an orphanage in Haiti. These children are without water and without food and without medical help. I understand that there is a huge controversy about bringing orphans to the US, but THESE children were double orphans BEFORE the earthquake. Is it going to take them to start dying before something is done? Our friend is trying to bring these kids to a place where they can receive the help that they so desperately need. Please be praying that the Lord move the mountains that are keeping them there. We here in the US can not completely understand the MAGNITUDE of the problem there. It's not so easy to "just bring them water. just bring them food. just bring them the medical treatment". They need help. They need help NOW. And to get help now they need to be taken out of Haiti. One of the problems that Haiti had BEFORE the quake, and now it's becoming even worse, is child trafficking. By leaving these orphans there, they are vulnerable and at risk. So please  watch the video and join me in prayer!

My Pretty Girl

So sorry I have been so late in updating after Karleigh Mei's surgery! We've had a busy weekend. :)

Karleigh Mei woke up Saturday morning, and was back to her normal, happy, chatty, bouncy self! It amazes me how quickly after surgery she bounces back!

It's still hard to tell exactly how her eye will heal up, but we feel that it looks fabulous right now...just 3 days after surgery! It is still pretty tight and swollen. She is such a darling girl and all we can see is the beautiful girl that she IS!

Here are some pictures of her "working the camera". :) Have I mentioned before how much I love this girl?? :)

I thought I'd share these pictures of Karleigh Mei, taken almost exactly a year ago! This picture was taken before she had any surgery on her eye. You can see how much of her eyelid was missing and how wonderful her eye looks now!! She still was such a darling, DARLING girl! Oh...my sweet baby girl!

Home Sweet Home!!!

We are home from Karleigh Mei's eyelid surgery this morning. The doctor felt really good about it. This should be her last one until she is teenager'ish. :)

Yesterday, we drove out of town for her pre-op appointment with her doctor and to pre-register at the hospital.

Here is a picture of Karleigh Mei with her doctor.

After we were done with all of our pre-op appointments, we went to the movies! This girl can put down some popcorn!

After her surgery this morning, she was in quite a bit of pain. I tell you, that hurts this mama's heart so much!! After we got in the car to come back home, she started feeling so much better!! A little St*rbucks doesn't hurt either!

Here is my darling girl singing her heart out to "Tomorrow, Tomorrow, I love you, Tomorrow..."

I love this girl so!

We don't know what her eyelid looks like yet, we will take the patch off tomorrow. Thanks for all the prayers! They have been felt!

PS Her starbucks drink was NOT a caffeinated one! :)

3rd Eyelid Surgery Tomorrow

My heart is aching with the fact that, today, we have to travel out of town, so that Karleigh Mei can have her 3rd eyelid surgery tomorrow. My head tells me that this is what we have to do. That this is what she, eventually, will be thankful we did. But my heart is hurting that she has to do this again. I know that at the time they will have to take her from my arms and back to surgery, my heart will feel like I have failed her. When she keeps eye contact with me until she is taken back behind those doors, I'm not sure if I can be strong enough to not weep. My sweet girl, how I love her so!!

If you could be praying for her (and for me)---for strength and peace about what is to come.

I thank you in advance for your prayers!! They are felt!!

~Sunday Snapshot: My Guy Garrison~

Today I was able to pull Garrison out to snap some shots of him. We also had a party with some of his friends at the house this evening. His birthday was two weeks ago, but his first party had to be canceled because he had gotten a bad ear infection. :(

Garrison is quite the guy. He's super nice and very polite. I love having him around!

He's now a teenager. If he's anything like his older brother and sisters, he's going to be an AWESOME teenager! Teenagers always get the bad rap. But in my experience, teenagers are the bomb!

He's recently been  more aware of and more opinionated about his clothes. I love how he tucks in just the front part of his shirt. I think this is the cool thing. It looks cool on my Garrison. :)

I wonder what I'd look like with just the front part of my shirt tucked in? That might not be so cool with someone....ahem.....my age. :)

ANOTHER slideshow...

So I did another slideshow....I noticed a couple of mistakes and it's a bit choppy in places...until I can fix it, here's our journey from before, during, and the last year home with Karleigh Mei.

And just to warn you, it's long. :)

I FINALLY figured out iMovie enough to make a slideshow of our trip to China to get Karleigh Mei. It's possible I might even redo this one! :) At least I got something done. :)

Happy 40th Birthday Karl!

Today is Karl's 40th birthday!

Karl is an incredible man, and I am blessed to be married to him. Without his faith and obedience to the Lord, these pictures wouldn't have been taken. Following the Lord takes you to amazing places and blesses you beyond your wildest dreams.

Can't wait to see how the Lord is going to bless this awesome man in the next year!

I love you Karl!!

Let's celebrate you and eat some cake!!!

~Sunday Snapshot: My Guy Gannon~

I need to get better at this Sunday Snapshot. My life is crazy sometimes and I have to slow down just a bit to do this. Today I did just that and snagged my oldest son, Gannon, and took him out and snapped some photos of him.

About Gannon.

Gannon is growing like a weed. Like a weed I'm telling you! He's grown almost 2 feet in the last year. No joke. And you can only imagine how much food he's eating. Lots. This boy can eat! And not an ounce of fat to show for it either! Enjoy it while it lasts Gannon! HA! .....sigh.

Gannon has one of the most tender hearts of any young man I've ever known. He's just like his Dad! He is also so incredibly good with children. I'm believing it's a gift. And kids really like Gannon too!

Gannon also loves all things furry. This pic has way too much light in it (need to run it through Lightroom*), but I liked it nonetheless. Here is Gannon and our sweet Sophie dog.

Gannon and Mabel have been pals for almost his whole life. Gannon will be 15 in March and Mabel will be 12 in April.  Gannon always loves on Mabel, even when she's smelly. :)

And Mabel adores Gannon right back! :)

Gannon is a blessing in our family. I am so thankful for Gannon!

Readoption

Today we went down to the "Corner House", aka Court House, and had Karleigh Mei's Readoption. It really just felt like a photo op with the Judge. :) I think Karleigh Mei almost hit him in the head with his own gavel. Woops! Now I can officially say we are DONE with Karleigh Mei's adoption! Yay! She's mine all mine!!! Don't forget to scroll down and enter my giveaway if you haven't already!

Karleigh Mei swearing that we are super nice parents. :)

Garrison also witnessing to the fact that we are super nice parents. :)

Karleigh Mei "helping" feed sweet little Gracie --an adorable blessing from Ethiopia who was also readopted today with us!

And I totally swiped this picture from my friend Elissa's blog. :) Here is most of our group. There were seven blessings readopted all together. The Lord has blessed us in SO MANY ways with these group of families!!

Lucia

Do you see this darling, DARLING girl? Her name is Lucia, and she is four years old.  We are sponsoring her through Children's HopeChest. She receives care at the Beveni Carepoint. This is a gathering place for the children to receive food and care from the Go-go's in Swaziland. To learn more about sponsoring a child, go to www.hopechest.org.

Here is a short video of some of the children there with Lucia. Many of the children are still available. Do any of them tug at YOUR heart like little Lucia did to me?

GIVEAWAY!!

**Bumping this back up**

I'm having my first GIVEAWAY! Yay!!

A couple of months ago I read the book, "Scared" by Tom Davis. I have to say it was a very hard read. Hard because I cannot imagine that what the book is about is really happening. Happening now. Today.  I have felt the urgency to share this with others. If we all knew what was happening in Africa, and we did something about it, just a LITTLE something, I believe we could all make such a difference in so many lives.

All you have to do to be entered in the drawing is to just leave a comment on this post. Get your comment in by Wed. January 13, 11:59 pm (central time) and I'll announce the winner on Thursday, Jan. 14th!

Ethiopian Orphans

When we heard Tom Davis speak the night of the Gala in November '08, he said something that I have never been able to shake. He had us picture our own children as orphans. On the streets. Without food. Without a home. Struggling to survive. I can hardly even think about this possibility. It pierces my heart like nothing ever could. But this is exactly how God views the orphan crisis. Those ARE His children. And if I'm one of His children too, doesn't that make me responsible to do something? Aren't we supposed to be HIS hands and feet? At the gala, we were shown this video. And in the faces of these beautiful children, I can't help but see glimpses of my own children.

Children's Hopechest

Have you ever heard of Tom Davis? He is the president and CEO of Children's Hopechest. I had the awesome opportunity to hear him speak at our "Orphan's Ticket Home" Gala just weeks before we left for China to get Karleigh Mei. I love what he is doing through Children's Hopechest and through the books he has written. If you haven't read any of his books, I would highly recommend you do! I am reading "Red Letters" right now, and it is opening my eyes even more to the plight of those living in Africa--especially the children who are effected by the AIDS crisis.

Here is a video done by Children's Hopechest that I had to pass along:

Happy 13th Birthday Garrison!!

Thirteen years ago today, my fourth child and second boy, Garrison August, was born! What a happy day that was! Garrison was such an easy baby. He was so sweet and laid back. He is still a super easy kid. He's a friend to all he meets. He's becoming quite the young gentleman too! He's always quick to open the door for me and always says "yes/no, m'am". He has such a big heart for others and I cannot wait to see who the Lord has planned for him to be!

A walk down the last year with Garrison:

Garrison on his 12th birthday.

Garrison loving on Karleigh Mei. He took right away to being a GREAT big brother!

Garrison and his great smile!

I took an online photography class and Garrison was always so sweet to be my model.

Okay....maybe it was hard to be model sometimes. But let's face it, I was slow at setting my camera.

Another day modeling for me.

Having a little sister that likes to ALWAYS be in the spotlight is sometimes hard. :)

Garrison and our backyard fort.

Garrison raced his first Soap Box Derby.

He was my escort at Katie's wedding!

He had to get his haircut when he started back to school after being homeschooled for many years.

Teaching Karleigh Mei some volleyball skills.

And some percussion skills. :)

Trip to Big Bend.

Garrison at the beach this past Thanksgiving.

I love you so much Garrison!!!!! Let's celebrate YOU!!!

Updated with pics from last night!

My newest teenager!

Sharing a "sprinkle".

Karleigh Mei never misses a party. Even with a fever of 104...she keeps going like Energizer* Bunny. My darling girl with her rosy, red cheeks! She loves her big brother Garrison!!
