Lent and Bloggy Reading

***I just wanted to clarify as I had some people email and comment me thinking that I will not be updating my blog. I WILL continue to update my blog (I too use it and turn it into a memory book at the end of the year). I am only giving up reading OTHER blogs...as this is where I spend wayyyyyy too much time and is my real sacrifice. :o)***

I have been giving this a lot of thought and after reading Denise's blog yesterday it sealed the deal for me. Although not Catholic, I think that Lent is a custom that all Christians should consider following. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday (today!) and continues until Easter. The time between is 40 days and represents the time that Jesus spent in the desert with Satan tempting Him. During Lent, followers are asked to give up something that has significant meaning to them...or something that you would miss. For me, it would be reading blogs! I have struggled with this thought because I LOVE reading my blogs and keeping up with all my bloggy friends. But I hear the Lord asking me to do this for numerous reasons and so this is what I have decided. I will continue to update MY blog--we have some big days coming up involving Karleigh Mei (surgeries and such...), I just will not be "blog hopping" and reading others.

Okay...this is going to be REALLY hard for me to do...I have even thought about deleting this whole post.  :o) I'd love to know if anyone else is going to give up something  (you can still comment and I will get it).

I, too, thought about giving up blogging - but I don't think it is something I can do whole heartedly. My friend left for China this morning, uggh. I thought about giving up sweets. Candy, cookies, cake, sweets. Talk about something tempting :)

Jenn,
I too felt that God was calling me to give up some things that I really enjoy and spend too much time with. My mom and Ian's mom would be VERY unhappy with me if I stopped blogging (we aren't planning to go back to visit them until Easter) and I also use the blog as my memory books. So this year I'm passing on all sweets (my weakness, I'll pray instead of putting chocolate in my mouth) and I've logged off Facebook (a great time waster for me). I'll miss your encouraging comments, but I totally understand. Your family will be in my prayers!

So glad that you will still be blogging!!! I'd miss you for sure! And hey, we are blessed when we obey! So if this is the Lord's leading, you are wise and favored for your obedience!

Love ya!

I also spend a lot of time on blogs. And I respect and understand your scarifice but don't forget that those blogs you come too are not just for you.(they are for me! lol) You alway's leave an encouraging word. A word from God. I see your comments on mine and others pages. So while you just think your playing your actually going about your Fathers business. It's okay for Gods work to be fun. He does not always make it a burden to do His stuff. Love ya Jenn. Will be looking forward to your updates.

I agree with Tonya! Not that you shouldn't fast, but when you "come back" remember her words!
I'm going to fast from fear and worry! I've cut back on those already, but they need to be gone. I'm cutting back on chocolate for lent, I say that cause I forget that I'm fasting so easily and when I do and eat something, I feel so horrible, it makes me understand the old Christians in the first church age that used to beat their own backs. Don't think that's a good idea. Love you all! Tanya
