When we heard Tom Davis speak the night of the Gala in November '08, he said something that I have never been able to shake. He had us picture our own children as orphans. On the streets. Without food. Without a home. Struggling to survive. I can hardly even think about this possibility. It pierces my heart like nothing ever could. But this is exactly how God views the orphan crisis. Those ARE His children. And if I'm one of His children too, doesn't that make me responsible to do something? Aren't we supposed to be HIS hands and feet? At the gala, we were shown this video. And in the faces of these beautiful children, I can't help but see glimpses of my own children.

We were JUST talking about this the other day (my husband & I) Most of us don't want to imagine that there is ANY pain, struggling, suffering, death, rape, murder, incest, AIDS. Life is just easier when we don't imagine that our children could possible ever live this life, this way. Or that anyone's children could. It's all about living in that box, that safe haven, that comfort zone (that is SO dangerous!) My heart breaks in two to hear the stories of the harsh realities. And know that this IS happening, it IS real.
I just read this yesterday & my heart.stopped.
There are more slaves today than ever in human history: approximately 27 million.
In 2007, Slave Traders made more money than Google, Nike and Starbucks combined.
Makes me pray even more fervently that Jesus would return - tomorrow - TODAY.
Jenn,
God is certainly moving on our hearts for the orphans in Africa and reading what you wrote really struck my heart. I showed the video to my children and they were all crying and asking to go and bring those children home! Who knows what God has for us all?
I'd like to post that video on my blog if it is okay with you.
Oh and I am also shocked to read the stats from Football & about slave traders! It does make us cry out to God more fervently for His return.
